Allergic reaction to eyelash extensions

Maybe eyelash extensions should come with a warning!

Most things in life come with some sort of risk, especially when enhancing the body. Depending on the treatment you undertake there can be all sorts of possible bodily reactions. The problem is that people with sensitive skin can have serious allergic reactions to the strong glues used in semi permanent eyelash extensions application. Although the beauty industry try to cater for such people, there are various types of adhesive that can be used depending on the client, such as sensitive and odourless..these glues are enhanced to try and counteract these allergic reactions.

“We hear stories where people have had the semi permanent eyelash extensions procedure constantly for a year or so and then all of a sudden have a reaction to the glue. This can be due to a build up of the adhesive on the natural lash, but can also be a general allergic reaction ”

The number one ingredient contained in the eyelash extensions adhesive that gets the most complaint is rubber latex. If you have an allergy to this there is a possibility you will react. Formaldehyde is another ingredient which is contained in so many of the well known semi permanent eyelash extension company’s adhesive and in a number of various beauty products. Although the majority of these adhesives are now said to be hypo-allergenic, this does not mean they are non-allergenic. It is worth remembering that not all glues contain the latter ingredients and as in any treatment should be checked prior for safety reasons and for peace of mind.

It is rare, but eyelash extensions can cause a reaction...

If an allergic reaction occurs to eyelash extensions, symptoms such as redness, itchiness and swelling of the eye area are signs you need to be aware of. An eyelash test is a must and part of the procedure. 24 hours prior to having the eyelash extension treatment, this should be carried out by the application of a few individual lashes on both eyes. If a reaction occurs, a professional eyelash extensions technician should remove the offending eyelashes.

Semi permanent eyelash extensions can be a great enhancement to your eyes, but maintenance is needed in order to keep your eyes looking healthy and your lashes lasting.
